Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is there an archive of PolicySmart News emails available for reference?

A: You can find all the content from the PolicySmart News emails within PolicySmart itself! To view historical information, including policies with previous effective dates, just access the News section and select 'Clear Filters'.

Q: Is a separate handbook necessary for each state where I have employees?

A: Best practice is to have a national handbook that covers federal rules and regulations along with company policies and guidance, supplemented with state and local rules. For more information, refer to Employee Handbook Best Practices found under Additional Resources below.

Q: How often are the templates and checklists updated?

A: ComplianceHR updates logic and content before a new regulation's effective date. However, legal updates can require analysis and development before they're updated in the system, so there's always a small gap between when something is enacted and when the system update occurs. We attempt to update the system as close to a regulation's enacted date as possible. Still, some legal changes require more analysis from subject matter experts or a more significant amount of development which can cause a larger gap in time after the enacted date.

Q: How often should an employee handbook be updated?

A: Employee handbooks should be revised whenever an applicable law or regulation changes, or the organization’s policy changes. For multi-state employers this can potentially mean frequent, and even daily updates. It is important to address this topic with your employment attorney to ensure you're meeting all legal requirements. For more information, refer to whitepapers found under Additional Resources below.
